Experts of the University Hospital Brno across various fields of precision medicine have active cooperation not only with the Czech Republic but also with numerous prestigious international institutions. These cooperation serve purposes beyond research, extending to professional consultations for individual patients and their diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The strategic partners from the University Hospital Brno in the field of precision medicine include CEITEC MU, the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University (LF MU), the newly established CREATIC MU and the company Roche, with whom the Center for Precision Medicine of the University Hospital Brno (CPM) signed a memorandum of cooperation in 2024. Additionally, there is active cooperation with large infrastructures such as CZECRIN, EATRIS, or NCMG.
In September 2024, the BabyFox project was launched with the primary goal of obtaining results of rapid whole-genome sequencing (rWGS) for patients with genetic disorders in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units within the shortest possible time, ideally within seven days. The project is carried out with financial support from Illumina.
In 2025, the CPM also signed a memorandum of cooperation with the NICR, which connects cutting-edge research with clinical practice and strives to improve the effectiveness of cancer treatment.
In the same year, the CPM also further expanded its network of partnerships to include key patient organizations and associations (Rare Diseases Czech Republic, VERONICA, Hlas onkologickych pacientu, Asgent and Aliance zen s rakovinou prsu). Memoranda of cooperation have been signed in order to strengthen the connection between research and the needs of patient communities and to support their active role in the development of innovative healthcare.
Part of these activities is also cooperation with the Krtek Children´s Oncology Endowment Fund (Krtek COEF), which was established in November 1999 by Prof. Jaroslav Štěrba, M.D., Ph.D., the current Head of the Department of Paediatric Oncology at the University Hospital Brno.
The foundation's core pillars are the support of personalized treatment and research of childhood cancer, improving the quality of life for patients and their families, and providing home care. A significant aspect of the first pillar is the support of precision medicine. Over the past 10 years, Krtek COEF has supported this pillar with an amount exceeding CZK 42,250,000.
As part of the support for precision medicine, an important role is also played by Kompas, the Endowment Fund for Precision Medicine (Kompas NF), which focuses on developing an individualised approach to treatment and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. The aim of Kompas NF is to maintain a high standard of care through innovative diagnostics and treatment, which includes not only oncological diseases but also rare and ultra-rare diseases, as well as cases of undiagnosed pediatric patients.
