Peta had two rounds of aggressive chemotherapy. Unfortunately, there were complications that kept Peta on drips for 465 days. In Peta's words, with the support of his family, "Even as the smallest baby in the country, I was being irradiated, and nothing was going well. So my parents turned to the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the University Hospital Brno, where, with the support of the Krtek Children's Oncology Endowment Fund (Krtek COEF), I was enrolled in the personalised medicine programme. I underwent the first experimental treatment, which lasted all summer. At the beginning of September, my parents decided to get married, and since I couldn't leave the hospital, the wedding took place in the hospital garden, thanks to the Krtek COEF. Then I underwent another experimental treatment, got more new drugs, corticosteroids... And suddenly, something happened, and the secretory diarrhoea caused by the tumor, which kept me on drips for months, stopped. After a long year and a quarter, I was able to go home with my mother, and my treatment was carried out at home with regular visits to the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the University Hospital Brno. The tumor still refuses to give up, and I have to fight it all the time, but thanks to the doctors, nice nurses, and Krtek, everything is getting better. For more than six years, I have been trying to beat this disease. I should not have been here for a long time, but in Brno, I got a new chance, a hope to be here with you all the time, a hope to live. That's all, but it's unbelievable how much it is".
Peta Pajdl tries to enjoy every day, and everyone says he teaches those around him to do the same. He has a younger sister, so they misbehave with mum and dad, but only a little. His treatment is not over yet, but as he is a happy boy who loves to play, build Lego, explore the world, and ask questions all the time, he and his loved ones believe that he will finally get rid of this "tummy bug"! A few days ago, he started school!
A big thank you to the whole team of doctors and kind nurses at the University Hospital Brno and also to Krtek - whose support allows Peta to receive personalised treatment and makes his stay in Brno much easier and more pleasant.
