Ms Jana - Victory over pancreatic cancer! From pain to full health

Ms Jana Kralikova visited her general practitioner with what she thought was just a stomach ache, but the results of the examination were overwhelming. She was diagnosed with one of the most aggressive forms of cancer - pancreatic cancer!

Sixty-one-year-old Jana, who was diagnosed with a large metastatic pancreatic tumor two years ago, has started to shrink thanks to tailored treatment. After a series of tests revealed a metastatic pancreatic tumor, she was given chemotherapy. The doctors started her on standard recommendations. In Jana's words, "I was first sent for genetic testing, which revealed that I was a carrier of a germline mutation in the BRCA2 gene. Thanks to this finding, my treatment was adjusted to make it even more effective. With this treatment, my pain disappeared, and I started to gain weight. After a CT scan, the doctors told me that the tumor had shrunk significantly and that the metastases had disappeared“.

Ms Jana was treated at the University Hospital Brno by doctor Michal Eid from the Department of Internal Hematology and Oncology at the University Hospital Brno and Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, who is also one of the leading doctors at the Centre for Precision Medicine of the University Hospital Brno. "Unfortunately, patients with metastases have approximately 12 months to live, despite standard therapy. However, in about 10% of pancreatic cancer patients, we detect germline mutations of BRCA1 or 2. In these patients, there is an opportunity to tailor treatment to achieve a significantly better outcome“. In Jana's case, it was even so successful that the tumor cells completely disappeared."

Two years after having been diagnosed, Jana's now completely cured thanks to precise medicine!
