Prof. Ondrej Slaby, Ph.D.

Prof. Ondrej Slaby, Ph.D. is a professor of molecular biology and genetics. He is the head of the Institute of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno. At the University Hospital Brno, he leads the Center for Precision Medicine and the Molecular Pathology Diagnostic Laboratory at the Institute of Pathology. He also heads a research group at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) at Masaryk University. He is a co-founder of the National Institute for Cancer Research, where he also served as its Scientific Director for three years.

He has been the Chairperson of the Czech Health Research Council since 2023. He is a specialist in clinical genetics, holds a medical certificate in Clinical Genetics and is a pioneer of the concept of precision oncology and precision medicine in general. In this field, he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in journals with impact factors. These works have been cited more than 9,000 times, and his h-index is 50. He has published numerous textbooks and scientific monographs. His scientific work has received multiple awards, including the Minister of Health Award for Medical Research and Development, the Czech Oncological Society Award, and the MUNI Innovation Award. He is also interested in fine art photography and has published two collections of poetry.
