in the last ten years perinatology care took up on tradition and results of the best Brno´s delivery school and simultaneously evolved itself in coordination with the latest global trends. Basic demand was humanisation of obstetric care and respecting women as equal partners.
Psychosocial aspects of obstetrics have been leveled with somatic aspects. This change has projected itself into organisational and proffesional procedures of the whole department, increasing interest of women in delivering in our clinic and number of deliveries by more than 10 percent. With more then 5000 deliveries per year we are the biggest obstetric department in the Czech republic. Despite the high number of deliveries we manage to respect individual approach to every woman. In census of satisfaction of czech women in year 2002 we placed ourselves on first position together with hospital in Vrchlabí.
In 1995 our government adopted the National perinatology programme and minister of healthcare established the Regional perinatological centre in University Hospital Brno, providing intensive and intermedial perinatal care. Every year we deliver and take care of 600-700 children with birth weight less than 2000 grams.
Proffesionals from our perinatology unit make close contacts with their colleagues throughout the whole region. Strengthening feedback from dispatching hospitals and regular audit of perinatal results lead to significant improvement of perinatal and neonatal care.
