A foreigner not participating in the system of public health insurance in the Czech Republic, or who is not insured on the basis of long-term contractual health insurance, must pay directly for health care or medical preparations provided. Participation in the public health insurance system applies to people with permanent residence in the Czech Republic, that is Czech citizens registered in the Czech Republic for permanent residence; foreigners holding Czech Republic residence permits or accorded asylum status and registered for permanent residence here and for people not having permanent residence on condition that they are employed by an employer who has an office registered in the Czech Republic. Foreigners who stay in the Czech Republic on the basis of a visa of more than 90 days may take out long-term contractual health insurance (in case of a longer stay, more than 365 days). More detailed information can be found in the information manual for foreigners ”Guide to Health Care in the Czech Republic” which may be obtained from the Information Center staff in the following languages – English, German, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
